Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma kickstarted the “Reimagining Streets Initiative” at the MIIT campus in Shillong, prioritizing the transformation of urban streets into pedestrian-friendly spaces. The initiative’s primary objective is to create walkable streets, fostering a safer and more accessible environment for residents and visitors alike.
During the launch event, CM Conrad K Sangma emphasized the significance of community engagement and collaboration in driving sustainable urban development. He reiterated the government’s commitment to enhancing Shillong’s infrastructure while actively involving local communities in the city’s growth journey.
Furthermore, Sangma highlighted the distribution of kick-start cheques under the My City campaign to various localities in Shillong. This initiative aims to empower local communities and encourage their active participation in enhancing the city’s livability and vibrancy.
The “Reimagining Streets Initiative” marks a significant step towards revitalizing urban spaces and promoting sustainable modes of transportation in Shillong. With the development of footpaths in the city’s first phase, the initiative sets the stage for a more pedestrian-centric urban landscape, aligning with global trends towards creating healthier and more inclusive cities.
