Meghalaya: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has proudly announced the attainment of (Geographical Indication) GI certification for several distinctive products of the state. These include the renowned Garo textile wrap around Dakmanda, the traditional black pottery from Jaintia Hills known as Larnai pottery, the high-curcumin-content Lakadong turmeric, and the rice-based local brew Chubitchi.

Expressing his delight over this achievement, CM Sangma emphasized the significance of the GI certification as a testament to the uniqueness of Meghalaya’s local products and the richness of its cultural heritage. He extended gratitude to the state departments and the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) for their invaluable contributions and support in securing this prestigious recognition.

The GI certification serves as a mark of authenticity and quality assurance, acknowledging the geographical origin and traditional methods associated with the production of these products. It not only enhances their market value but also protects against unauthorized imitation or misuse of the product’s name.

CM Sangma called upon the people of Meghalaya to celebrate this milestone achievement and to cherish and promote the state’s indigenous products. This recognition not only highlights the craftsmanship and ingenuity of local artisans but also opens up opportunities for economic growth and sustainable development within the region.
