In a recent announcement made during his visit to Odisha, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari, disclosed the sanctioning of Rs. 718.26 crore for the widening and strengthening of the Daringbadi Ghat section on National Highway -59. Spanning across the Kandhamal and Ganjam districts, this allocation falls under the Annual Plan for the fiscal year 2023-24, aiming to enhance connectivity and infrastructure in the region.

The project targets a total distance of 26.96 kilometers, addressing longstanding issues posed by the narrow carriageway and suboptimal geometrics of the Daringbadi Ghat segment. Shri Gadkari emphasized that these challenges have resulted in long-route vehicles from western Odisha bypassing National Highway 59, impacting both traffic flow and regional connectivity.

Daringbadi, renowned for its picturesque landscapes and as a prominent tourist destination, especially during winter, stands to benefit significantly from the proposed enhancements. Elevating the standards of this highway stretch not only ensures safer travel conditions but also facilitates all-weather connectivity, thereby boosting tourism and economic activities in the region.

The allocation reflects the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure across the country, with a specific focus on addressing critical bottlenecks and enhancing transportation networks to facilitate economic growth and development. Shri Gadkari’s announcement underscores the importance of investing in infrastructure projects that not only alleviate existing challenges but also pave the way for sustainable progress and prosperity.
