Union Minister Nitin Gadkari paid tribute to the courageous Rajput king, Maharana Pratap, on the anniversary of his death. Maharana Pratap, born Pratap Singh I on May 9, 1540, left an indelible mark in history for leading the Rajput resistance against the Mughal Emperor Akbar’s expansionist endeavors.
Maharana Pratap’s legacy includes his significant role in key battles such as the Battle of Haldighati and the Battle of Dewair, where he emerged as a symbol of Rajput valor and determination. Born to Udai Singh II of Mewar and Jaiwanta Bai, he ascended to the throne in 1572 after the death of his father.
Despite familial tensions over the succession, Maharana Pratap became the 54th ruler of Mewar. His reign marked a period of fierce resistance against the Mughal forces. His chief consort, Maharani Ajabde Bai Punwar, played a crucial role in supporting Pratap. Their eldest son, Amar Singh I, continued the legacy.
The Battle of Haldighati, a notable clash in 1576, witnessed Maharana Pratap facing off against the Mughal forces led by Man Singh. Despite the eventual defeat, Pratap’s unwavering spirit and commitment to his people turned him into a folk hero.
Maharana Pratap’s life story exemplifies resilience, bravery, and dedication to the Rajput ethos. As Nitin Gadkari and others pay homage to this solemn occasion, the legacy of Maharana Pratap continues to inspire generations, cementing his place as a symbol of resistance and pride in Indian history.
