PM Modi attends the All India Conference of Director Generals/ Inspector Generals of Police

Jaipur: Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi presided over the 58th All India Conference of Director Generals/Inspector Generals of Police (DGsP/IGsP) at the Rajasthan International Centre in Jaipur on January 6 and 7, 2024. The conference, held in hybrid mode with over 500 police officers from across the country, covered crucial aspects of national security, counter-terrorism, cyber threats, and strategies against left-wing extremism.

Paradigm Shift in Criminal Laws:

Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister Modi hailed the enactment of new criminal laws as a paradigm shift in the criminal justice system. He emphasized a ‘Citizen First, Dignity First, and Justice First’ approach, advocating a transformation from traditional ‘Danda’ (force) to ‘Data’ (information). Modi urged imaginative communication to convey the emotional spirit behind the laws to diverse societal segments.

Focus on Women’s Safety:

Prime Minister Modi laid special emphasis on sensitizing women and girls about their rights and protection under the new criminal laws. He urged police to ensure women can work fearlessly ‘kabhi bhi aur kahin bhi’ (anywhere, anytime). The Prime Minister underscored the need for a positive police image, suggesting the use of social media for disseminating positive information, advancing natural disaster alerts, and organizing sports events to strengthen the citizen-police connection.

National Strength and Achievements:

Highlighting India’s achievements, including the success of the Aditya-L1 solar mission and the swift naval rescue operation in the Arabian Sea, Prime Minister Modi expressed pride in India’s emerging status as a major global power. He urged the Indian police to modernize into a world-class force, aligning with the country’s increasing national strength and global profile, working towards the vision of a developed India by 2047.

Conference Deliberations:

The three-day conference included discussions on critical components of national security, counter-terrorism strategies, left-wing extremism, cyber threats, and global counter-radicalization initiatives. Prime Minister Modi distributed the Police Medal for Distinguished Services and concluded the conference with a call for a modernized and efficient police force aligned with India’s vision for the future.

Key Attendees:

The conference was attended by the Union Home Minister, National Security Advisor, Ministers of State for Home, Union Home Secretary, DGsP/IGsP of States/UTs, and Heads of the Central Police Organizations/Central Armed Police Forces, among others.

Prime Minister Modi’s address underscored the imperative for a citizen-centric, technologically advanced, and globally connected police force to meet the evolving challenges of the 21st century. The conference served as a platform for strategic discussions and collaborative efforts to enhance national security and law enforcement capabilities.
