India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, expressed deep sorrow at the passing of Daradahalli Byregowda Chandregowda, a revered and influential political figure in Karnataka. PM Modi acknowledged DB Chandragowda’s substantial contributions to public service and his remarkable political career, spanning various roles across multiple political parties.
DB Chandragowda, born on August 26, 1936, left an indelible mark through his service as a three-term Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha, a one-term Member of the Rajya Sabha, and a three-term MLA. His career was characterized by his dedication to public service, holding positions as the Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs in the Karnataka government, and serving as the Leader of the Opposition in the state assembly.
PM Modi praised DB Chandragowda’s extensive experience and profound understanding of the Constitution, recognizing the significant impact he had made in Karnataka’s political landscape. His commitment to social service was noted as remarkable, resonating across various political affiliations, including the Praja Socialist Party, Janata Dal, Congress, and the Bharatiya Janata Party.
The demise of DB Chandragowda due to health issues on November 7, 2023, marks the end of an era in the political arena of Karnataka. His legacy, characterized by unwavering dedication and a rich tapestry of political roles, leaves an indelible imprint on the state’s political history.
PM Modi extended his heartfelt condolences to DB Chandragowda’s family and supporters, recognizing the loss not only to his immediate circle but to the broader political community in Karnataka. The Prime Minister’s words of empathy and recognition serve as a tribute to the significant contributions Chandragowda made during his illustrious political career.
