PM Modi Flags Off Nine Vande Bharat Trains, Boosting India’s Rail Connectivity

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi achieved another milestone in India’s transportation sector as he inaugurated nine Vande Bharat trains via video conferencing. These new trains symbolize the Prime Minister’s vision of enhancing connectivity across India and providing world-class amenities to railway passengers.

The New Vande Bharat Trains

The trains that were flagged off during this significant event include:

  2. Tirunelveli-Madurai-Chennai Vande Bharat Express
  3. Hyderabad – Bengaluru Vande Bharat Express
  4. Vijayawada – Chennai, Vande Bharat Express
  5. Patna – Howrah Vande Bharat Express
  6. Kasaragod – Thiruvananthapuram Vande Bharat Express
  7. Rourkela – Bhubaneswar, Puri Vande Bharat Express
  8. Ranchi – Howrah Vande Bharat Express
  9. Jamnagar-Ahmedabad Vande Bharat Express

Unprecedented Modern Connectivity

Prime Minister Modi described the launch of these nine Vande Bharat Trains as an unprecedented achievement in modern connectivity for India. He emphasized that the pace and scale of infrastructure development in the country align with the aspirations of its 140 crore (1.4 billion) citizens. These new trains are not only modern but also more comfortable, reflecting the enthusiasm of a new India. Prime Minister Modi shared his delight in the growing popularity of Vande Bharat, with over 1.11 crore (11 million) passengers having traveled on Vande Bharat trains.

Expanding Connectivity Across the Nation

Currently, 25 Vande Bharat trains serve various states and union territories. With the addition of these nine new trains, Prime Minister Modi anticipates that Vande Bharat will soon connect every corner of the country. These trains are a boon for passengers seeking time-efficient travel and have also contributed to increased tourism and economic activity in the regions they connect.

A Confident India in the Making

Prime Minister Modi conveyed the prevailing atmosphere of hope and confidence in the country. Citizens take pride in India’s achievements, such as the historic successes of Chandrayaan 3 and Aditya L1. India’s recent accomplishments on the global stage, particularly during the G20 summit, highlight the nation’s strength in democracy, demography, and diversity.

Empowering Women through the Narishakti Vandan Act

Prime Minister Modi acknowledged the pivotal role of women in India’s development and mentioned that many railway stations are now managed by women functionaries, demonstrating the transformative impact of the Narishakti Vandan Act.

A Vision for the Future

Prime Minister Modi stressed the government’s commitment to simultaneous development for the present and future of India. Initiatives such as the PM Gatishakti Masterplan and the New Logistics Policy aim to streamline infrastructure development and transportation, ultimately enhancing the ease of travel for all citizens.

Highlighting the importance of railways in citizens’ lives, Prime Minister Modi lamented the neglect of this crucial sector in the past. The government’s efforts to transform Indian Railways include increased budget allocations—this year’s railway budget is eight times that of 2014—and comprehensive projects for route doubling, electrification, and new tracks.

Modernizing Railway Stations

Prime Minister Modi emphasized the need to modernize railway stations, marking a significant shift in approach. A campaign for the development and modernization of railway stations has been initiated in India, resulting in the construction of numerous foot overbridges, lifts, and escalators for passengers’ convenience. Over 500 major stations are undergoing redevelopment during Amrit Kaal (a period associated with auspicious events), earning them the designation of Amrit Bharat Stations.

Celebrating Railway Stations’ Birthdays

The Prime Minister highlighted the celebration of “Sthapna Diwas” (foundation day) for railway stations, with notable celebrations taking place at Coimbatore, Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, and Mumbai. These festivities commemorate the historic significance of railway stations, and the tradition is set to expand further.

To realize the vision of a developed India by 2047, Prime Minister Modi stressed the importance of collective development and leaving no state or region behind. He advocated for a “Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas” (Development for All) approach, highlighting the nation’s commitment to unity and progress.

A Memorable Journey for Passengers

Prime Minister Modi urged railway employees to make every journey memorable for passengers, emphasizing sensitivity toward ease of travel and providing a positive experience.

Joining Hands for Swachhta Abhiyan and Vocal for Local

He called upon everyone to participate in the Swachhta Abhiyan (cleanliness campaign) at 10 a.m. on October 1st, paying tribute to Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals. Additionally, he encouraged support for Khadi (handspun cloth) and Swadeshi (indigenous) products, promoting “Vocal for Local” from October 2nd to October 31st, Sardar Patel’s birth anniversary.
