Prime Minister Narendra Modi graced the Viksit Bharat Viksit North East Program in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, today, where he presided over the inauguration, dedication, and foundation-laying ceremonies for a host of development projects totaling approximately Rs 55,600 crores across several northeastern states.

In his address to the gathering, Prime Minister Modi underscored the importance of ongoing national festivities celebrating Viksit Bharat, particularly emphasizing the newfound enthusiasm for development in the Northeast. He expressed gratitude for the support of Nari Shakti (women’s power) in driving these initiatives forward.

Highlighting his vision of ‘Ashtalakshmi’ for Northeast development, the Prime Minister emphasized the region’s pivotal role in fostering tourism, business, and cultural ties with South and Southeast Asia. He outlined the transformative impact of the Rs 55,000 crore projects, which include essential infrastructure enhancements benefiting thousands of families, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and transportation networks.

Prime Minister Modi also spotlighted the Mission Palm Oil, a dedicated effort to bolster India’s self-sufficiency in the edible oil sector, particularly relevant for the Northeast. He lauded the farmers for their participation in palm cultivation, emphasizing its potential to enhance their incomes and contribute to national self-reliance.

Moreover, the Prime Minister reiterated his commitment to inclusive development, pledging to prioritize the welfare of women, marginalized tribes, and border communities. He applauded recent initiatives, such as reduced gas cylinder prices and enhanced access to clean drinking water, as tangible steps towards improving livelihoods in the region.

Addressing concerns about neglected border villages, Prime Minister Modi reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to equitable development, exemplified by initiatives like the Sela Tunnel, which promises all-weather connectivity and enhanced accessibility for remote communities.

Underscoring the significance of connectivity and electrification for enhancing living standards and business opportunities, Prime Minister Modi compared achievements in these areas post-2014 with those preceding it, signaling a paradigm shift towards accelerated development.
