PM Modi Launches Skill Development and Textile Park Initiatives in Maharashtra

PM Modi addressed the National PM Vishwakarma Program in Wardha, Maharashtra, on September 20, 2024, marking the first anniversary of the PM Vishwakarma scheme. During this event, he launched two significant initiatives: the Acharya Chanakya Skill Development Scheme and the Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Women Startup Scheme. Additionally, he released certificates and loans for beneficiaries of the PM Vishwakarma initiative and unveiled a commemorative stamp celebrating one year of progress under this program.

Key Highlights of the Event

Launch of New Schemes

  1. Acharya Chanakya Skill Development Scheme: This scheme aims to establish skill development training centers across Maharashtra, targeting youth aged 15 to 45. It seeks to enhance employability and self-reliance among participants by providing them with essential skills for various job opportunities.
  2. Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Women Startup Scheme: This initiative focuses on empowering women entrepreneurs by offering financial assistance of up to ₹25 lakh for early-stage startups. A portion of the funds is reserved for women from backward classes and economically weaker sections, promoting inclusivity in entrepreneurship.

PM Vishwakarma Program Achievements

PM Modi highlighted that over the past year, more than 20 lakh individuals with various traditional skills have been connected to the PM Vishwakarma Yojana. The government has provided skill training to over 8 lakh artisans, equipping them with modern tools and technology. Notably, 6 lakh Vishwakarmas received e-vouchers and loans to enhance their businesses, amounting to a total of ₹1400 crore disbursed within a year.

Foundation Stone for PM MITRA Park

During his address, PM Modi laid the foundation stone for the PM Mega Integrated Textile Regions and Apparel (PM MITRA) Park in Amravati. This project is expected to transform India’s textile industry by establishing a robust industrial infrastructure that attracts investments and creates jobs. The Prime Minister emphasized that this park would facilitate a complete supply chain from cotton production to fashion exports, thereby boosting local economies and farmers’ incomes.

Historical Significance

The choice of Wardha for this celebration holds historical importance as it is associated with Mahatma Gandhi’s legacy against untouchability and rural empowerment. PM Modi underscored that the PM Vishwakarma scheme is not merely a government initiative but a revival of India’s rich tradition of craftsmanship and skills that were historically neglected.

Conclusion

PM Modi’s address at the National PM Vishwakarma Program in Wardha reflects a strategic effort to empower artisans, promote skill development, and revitalize traditional industries in India. By launching targeted schemes like the Acharya Chanakya Skill Development Scheme and the Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Women Startup Scheme, the government aims to create a more inclusive economy while honoring India’s heritage in craftsmanship. The establishment of the PM MITRA Park further signifies a commitment to making India a global leader in textile manufacturing, ensuring sustainable growth and prosperity for future generations.
