New Delhi is set to host high-level bilateral talks between the United States and Germany with India’s Minister of Defence, Shri Rajnath Singh. The talks, scheduled for June 5th and June 6th, will see the US Secretary of Defence, Mr Lloyd Austin, and the German Federal Minister of Defence, Mr Boris Pistorius, engage in discussions on a range of defence cooperation issues, with a particular focus on industrial collaboration.
Secretary Austin, who will be arriving on June 4th from Singapore, is making his second visit to India, following his previous visit in March 2021. His two-day visit is expected to strengthen the strategic partnership between the United States and India, with a focus on deepening defence ties and enhancing security cooperation.
On the other hand, Mr Boris Pistorius, the German Federal Minister of Defence, will embark on a four-day visit to India, commencing on June 5th. His visit follows his time in Indonesia. In addition to his meeting with the Indian Minister of Defence, Mr Pistorius is also anticipated to engage with defence start-ups during an event organized by Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX) in New Delhi. The aim is to explore innovative partnerships and technological advancements in the defence sector.
Furthermore, Mr Pistorius will travel to Mumbai on June 7th, where he is expected to visit the Headquarters of the Western Naval Command and the renowned Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited. This visit underscores the importance of maritime security and naval cooperation in the partnership between India and Germany.
The talks between the US Secretary of Defence and the German Federal Minister of Defence with their Indian counterpart are significant steps in strengthening defence collaboration and promoting mutual interests. The discussions will encompass a wide range of issues, including industrial cooperation, to foster closer ties between these nations and enhance their respective defence capabilities. These engagements reflect the growing importance of India as a strategic partner in the global defence landscape.
