In her address, President Smt. Droupadi Murmu underscored the integral role that agriculture plays in Bihar’s culture and economy. Agriculture and its allied sectors not only provide employment to nearly half of the state’s workforce but also contribute significantly to Bihar’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Recognizing the importance of comprehensive agricultural development, the President commended the Government of Bihar’s continued efforts in this direction.
Successful Implementation of Agricultural Road Maps
The President highlighted the success of the previous three agricultural road maps implemented in Bihar since 2008. These initiatives have led to a remarkable increase in the productivity of key crops like paddy, wheat, and maize, nearly doubling their output. Additionally, Bihar has emerged as a leading producer of diverse agricultural products, including mushrooms, honey, makhana, and fish. The launch of the fourth Agriculture Road Map is seen as a pivotal step in furthering these achievements.
Bihar’s Farmers: Champions of Tradition and Modernity
President Smt. Droupadi Murmu commended Bihar’s farmers for their dedication to adopting modern farming techniques while preserving traditional agricultural methods and grain varieties. She noted that this harmonious blend of tradition with modernity serves as a commendable example for the entire nation.
Embracing Organic Farming
The President urged Bihar’s farmers to tap into the growing demand for organic products. Organic farming not only reduces agricultural costs and supports environmental conservation but also has the potential to enhance farmers’ incomes while providing nutritious food to the people. The Government of Bihar’s initiative to establish an organic corridor along the Ganga’s banks is a step in the right direction.
Climate Resilient Agriculture and Water Conservation
Addressing the challenges of global warming and climate change, the President emphasized that these issues disproportionately affect the underprivileged. Bihar has experienced reduced rainfall in recent years, necessitating a focus on water conservation. Climate Resilient Agriculture can mitigate the impact of climate change, promoting biodiversity, reducing water resource exploitation, conserving soil fertility, and ensuring balanced food production.
Ethanol Production for Energy Security
President Smt. Droupadi Murmu noted the significance of Bihar’s maize crop being used to produce ethanol. This sustainable practice reduces dependence on fossil fuels, contributes to environmental protection, and enhances the nation’s energy security.
The Path to Holistic Development
Concluding her speech, the President highlighted Bihar’s pivotal role in India’s journey toward development. She stressed the need to transcend narrow-mindedness and embrace holistic development. For Bihar to become a developed state, a comprehensive roadmap encompassing health, education, per capita income, and the Happiness Index is essential. President Murmu expressed her hope for Bihar to continuously progress on the path of holistic development, emphasizing the importance of setting clear objectives and following them diligently.
The launch of the fourth Krishi Road Map in Bihar marks a significant step toward enhancing agricultural productivity, sustainability, and overall development in the state. President Smt. Draupadi Murmu’s address reflects the government’s commitment to the well-being and prosperity of Bihar’s citizens.
