Polish professional footballer Robert Lewandowski plays as a striker for La Liga club Barcelona and captains the Poland national team. Lewandowski is considered one of the best strikers of all time, as well as one of the most successful players in Bundesliga history, recognized for his positioning, technique, and finishing.
He has scored over 500 senior career goals for club and country combined. After being the top scorer in the third and second tiers of Polish football with Znicz Pruszków, Lewandowski moved to top-flight Lech Poznań, where he helped the team win the 2009–10 Ekstraklasa.
He won honors including two consecutive Bundesliga titles and the league’s top goalscorer award when he transferred to Borussia Dortmund in 2010. He featured with Dortmund in the 2013 UEFA Champions League Final.
Lewandowski agreed to join Bayern Munich on a free transfer prior to the start of the 2014-15 season. He won the Bundesliga title in every one of his eight seasons in Munich. Lewandowski’s contributions were key to Bayern’s UEFA Champions League victory in 2019–20, which was part of a treble.
He is one of only two players, alongside Johan Cruyff, to achieve the European treble while also being the highest goalscorer in all three competitions. He was the first to do it as the sole top scorer.
Lewandowski was born in Warsaw, and he grew up in Leszno, which is in Warsaw West County. Partyzant Leszno was the local club where he took his first steps in football as an unregistered player.
He joined MKS Varsovia Warsaw in 1997, where he played for seven years as a teen. He moved to 4th tier side Delta Warsaw the following year, where he finally managed to play in the first team.
He scored 4 goals at the end of the season. In 2006–07, Lewandowski was the top goalscorer in the Polish third division, scoring 15 goals to help Znicz Pruszków win promotion. In the next season, he was the top scorer in the Polish second-highest division with 21 goals.
