Angelo Mathews was born on 2 June, 1987, in Colombo. He is a professional cricketer who captains the Sri Lankan national team. A right-handed batsman and an all-rounder, Mathews made his One Day International (ODI) debut in 2008 and his Test debut in 2009. He is the first cricketer in history to score a century in each of the three formats of the game.
Mathews has represented Sri Lanka in 229 ODIs, scoring 8,273 runs at an average of 46.92, including 24 centuries and 49 fifties. He has also taken 197 wickets at an average of 29.81, and has a best bowling figure of 5/30. In Tests, he has scored 2,857 runs at an average of 42.06, including six centuries and 16 fifties. He has also taken 97 wickets at an average of 31.14, and has a best bowling figure of 5/32. In Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), Mathews has scored 992 runs at an average of 32.13, including three centuries and eight fifties. He has also taken 34 wickets at an average of 25.85, and has a best bowling figure of 3/16.
Mathews was named the Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 2014, and the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy winner for ICC Cricketer of the Year in 2015. He was also named the captain of the ICC World XI team that played in the 2017 T20I Global League.

In first-class cricket, Mathews scored his maiden century in November 2009 against the touring English side. He followed that up with another century in the very next game. In January 2010, Mathews smashed an unbeaten 278 off just 271 balls against Tamil Union, which is the highest individual score in first-class cricket in Sri Lanka.
In List A cricket, Mathews has scored five centuries and 21 fifties. His highest score in List A cricket is 156* which he scored against Indian Oil Corporation in the 2014-15 season.
In T20 cricket, Mathews has scored two half-centuries. His highest score in T20 cricket is 59 which he scored against Bengal in the 2014-15 season.

■ In the 2016 IPL, Mathews scored 548 runs at an average of 54.80, helping the Delhi Daredevils reach the playoffs.
■ Overall, Mathews has scored 1,790 runs in the IPL at an average of 37.36. He has also taken 36 wickets at an average of 30.66.
