Uttarakhand: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami made a significant announcement on February 6th, stating that the state has taken a historic step towards implementing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) by presenting the Uniform Civil Code Bill-2024 on the table of the Assembly. This move underscores Uttarakhand’s commitment to the principle of ‘one state-one law’. It aligns with the vision of fostering inclusive development as envisioned in the ‘Sabka Saath-Sabka Vikas’ resolution of the Prime Minister.
CM Dhami emphasized that Uttarakhand is poised to become the first state in the country to implement the Uniform Civil Code, signaling a bold stride towards legal uniformity and social cohesion. The UCC aims to streamline diverse personal laws governing various religious communities and establish a common set of laws applicable to all citizens, irrespective of their religious affiliations.
By presenting the Uniform Civil Code Bill-2024, Uttarakhand demonstrates its resolve to uphold constitutional values of equality, justice, and secularism, while promoting harmony and unity among its diverse populace.
