Haldwani News: A wave of violence swept through Haldwani’s Banbhoolpura area, resulting in four fatalities and over 100 police officers sustaining injuries amidst clashes triggered by an anti-encroachment drive. State ADG Law & Order AP Anshuman confirmed the casualties, while the Nainital District Administration announced the suspension of internet services and the closure of educational institutions in response to the unrest.

The Uttarakhand government raised a high alert across the state following the outbreak of violence. Earlier, paramilitary forces were swiftly deployed to Haldwani after confrontations erupted during the anti-encroachment operation.

Senior Superintendent of Police Prahlad Meena clarified that the demolition of a madrasa and a mosque, constructed on illegally encroached government land, was carried out under heavy police and Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) presence, in compliance with a court order. However, enraged residents, including women, took to the streets to protest, leading to clashes with law enforcement officials involved in the demolition process.

As tensions escalate, police confirm two fatalities and three individuals in critical condition, further intensifying concerns over the situation’s volatility. The incident underscores the complex challenges surrounding land encroachments and the delicate balance between law enforcement and public sentiment in the region.
