Heads up, Meghalaya! Weather forecasts indicate that the state is in for some significant rainfall on October 6th, with conditions expected to range from isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall, including instances of extremely heavy rainfall. Rainfall measures may exceed a whopping 204.4 mm.
In the face of such weather predictions, safety should be a top priority. Residents are advised to stay informed about local weather updates and to take precautionary measures. This includes avoiding unnecessary travel, especially in flood-prone areas, and ensuring that your homes and properties are secure.
“It’s always a good idea to be prepared for inclement weather. Ensure that you have essential supplies, including non-perishable food items, clean drinking water, flashlights, and batteries, readily available. Stay connected with friends and family, and have an emergency plan in place”.
During heavy rainfall, avoid walking or driving through flooded areas. Floodwaters can be deceptive, and it’s challenging to gauge their depth. Swift-moving water can be especially dangerous. If you come across a flooded road, it’s best to turn around and find an alternate route.
“Check-in on your neighbors, especially the elderly and those who may need assistance. Community support is crucial during adverse weather conditions, and helping one another can make a significant difference in times of need”.
