New 30-Bed ESIC Hospital Opens in Kala Amb

In a significant step to strengthen healthcare infrastructure for India’s workforce, Union Minister of Labour & Employment and Youth Affairs & Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, today inaugurated the newly built 30-bedded Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Hospital at Kala Amb, Himachal Pradesh. Planned for future expansion to 100 beds, this modern facility represents a major advancement in providing inclusive, accessible, and quality healthcare under the ESI scheme.

The newly launched hospital is strategically positioned to serve over one lakh beneficiaries in the region, primarily catering to the industrial belt of Sirmaur and nearby districts. It reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening the healthcare safety net for workers and their families—a goal long championed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration.

A Tribute to the Labour Force

In a moving and symbolic gesture, Dr. Mandaviya felicitated the very workers who constructed the hospital. This act of recognition underlined the government’s unwavering respect for the ‘Shram Shakti’—the working class whose efforts continue to shape the nation.

Dr. Mandaviya emphasized in his speech, “This hospital is more than just a building—it is a tribute to our Shram Shakti, the backbone of our nation. It is this powerful force that has constructed our country, and acknowledging and empowering it is crucial for our nation’s progress.”

His words were a resounding tribute to the labour force that has long powered India’s development, and they reinforced the government’s resolve to ensure workers not only build the nation but also receive its care and respect in return.

Enhancing Educational Opportunities for Workers’ Families

Further strengthening the social security net for India’s workforce, Dr. Mandaviya announced an ambitious plan to establish medical colleges in all ESIC hospitals with 200 or more beds. In a remarkable step towards inclusivity, he stated that 40% of the seats in these institutions will be reserved for the wards of Insured Persons.

This policy will provide a tremendous boost to the educational and professional aspirations of workers’ families, ensuring that their children have access to quality medical education and careers, which in turn could uplift entire households.

A Health System for All—From ₹1 to ₹1 Crore

Reiterating the government’s unwavering commitment to equitable healthcare, Dr. Mandaviya emphasized that ESIC hospitals are for all workers, regardless of the cost of treatment. “Whether it’s ₹1 or ₹1 crore, every life is equally valuable,” he said. “No compromise will be made when it comes to the treatment of the poor.”

He shared a powerful example that highlighted this commitment: “When a request for ₹2 crore worth of life-saving medicines for the son of a poor insured worker came before us, it was approved immediately. Poverty must never stand in the way of essential medical care,” he affirmed.

This statement encapsulates the core philosophy behind the ESIC’s expanding network—dignity, access, and equal care for all.

Building a Healthy Nation, One Worker at a Time

The Kala Amb hospital boasts modern medical infrastructure, featuring departments including General Medicine, Surgery, Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology (Eye), and Dental. It is also equipped with a modular Operation Theatre, a Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD), and a Medical Gas Pipeline System to facilitate efficient and seamless patient care.

Both Outpatient (OPD) and Inpatient (IPD) services will be available, allowing comprehensive treatment under one roof. Built at a cost of approximately ₹100 crore, the facility is expected to significantly elevate healthcare access for the region’s ESI beneficiaries.

Dr. Mandaviya also assured that recruitment processes for all vacant posts in ESIC hospitals will be completed in “mission mode,” thereby ensuring adequate staff and seamless functioning of the new hospital.

A Vision Realized Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi

Dr. Mandaviya highlighted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the first Indian leader who has “truly worshipped and respected the labour force.” Under his leadership, the ESIC system has witnessed rapid expansion and reform, focused not just on healthcare delivery but on comprehensive worker welfare.

He concluded with a call to action for continued progress: “Creating a healthy citizenry leads to a healthy society, and ultimately to a healthy nation. Our government is fully committed to this goal, with our workers at the very heart of it.”

Conclusion

The inauguration of the 30-bedded ESIC hospital at Kala Amb is more than just the opening of a medical facility—it is a bold affirmation of the nation’s respect for its workers. With promises of upgraded infrastructure, educational inclusion, and uncompromising care, this hospital represents a new chapter in India’s labour welfare narrative.

As the foundation for a healthier, stronger, and more equitable India, initiatives like this continue to ensure that no worker is left behind—and that the hands that build the nation are protected, empowered, and celebrated.
