Is it possible to be hungry all the time? The answer is yes, but there are many reasons for that. Read on to find out Reasons You’re Always So Hungry!

What Causes Hunger?

Hunger is caused by the body’s need for energy. It sends signals to the brain when the body feels like it needs fuel. The most common immediate causes of hunger are eating less than planned or eating fewer foods than usual. Another cause of hunger is an emotional/mental response to stress, depression, or anxiety.

Things That Make You HUNGRY

When you have a higher level of the hunger hormone ghrelin present, you will be hungrier. This can be from lack of sleep, not enough physical activity, or even as a result of a medication your doctor may have prescribed to you.

Rapidly digestible carbohydrates can also lead to more hunger pangs. When we eat these carbs, they break down into sugar that enters our bloodstream and then triggers hunger by changing the levels of hormones in our stomach that tell our brain it is hungry.
If you’re on a low-carb diet and your glycogen stores are low, this can lead to more hunger pangs as well.

Habits That Cause Hunger

Reasons You’re Always So Hungry: When you’re always hungry, it can feel like there’s something wrong with your body. But it’s usually a matter of what you eat and when you eat it. Some habits may overstimulate your appetite so you crave food more often. Your stomach might be telling you to eat when it’s not really hungry because the nerves in your stomach have been stretched out by too much food.

Foods That Suppress Hunger

When you eat, it activates certain hormones that signal your brain that you’re full. Your hormones need to work properly in order for the feeling of hunger to go away. There are some foods that may help suppress your hunger. For example, protein plays a key role because it takes longer for your stomach to digest. Foods high in fiber also may make you feel full faster, while foods high in sugar or fat can make you hungrier.

When to Eat on a Keto Diet

If you’re following a ketogenic diet, you should be eating carbs before the workout. The carbs will fuel your workout and give you more energy to work out longer than usual. Have a protein shake or a light snack right after the workout so that your muscles can start rebuilding right away. When on a ketogenic diet, it is also important to have supplements for electrolytes and B vitamins.
