‘Gorakhpur Eye’ Proposal Sought for Iconic Structure Along Ramgarhtal

Gorakhpur: In an ambitious move to boost tourism, the Gorakhpur Development Authority (GDA) is set to introduce the ‘Gorakhpur Eye,’ a landmark attraction inspired by the renowned London Eye. The GDA has initiated the process by issuing a Request for Proposal (RFP) to select a consultant for the project, with interested companies eligible to apply until January 29.

The proposed ‘Gorakhpur Eye’ is poised to become a permanent fixture in the picturesque Ramgarhtal area, offering a distinctive experience to locals and tourists alike. The development of this landmark aligns with ongoing efforts to beautify the region, including the provision of boating facilities, the commencement of cruise operations, and the construction of a ring road around the scenic pond.

“Drawing inspiration from the London Eye, a 135-meter-high cantilever observation wheel located on the South Bank of the River Thames, the ‘Gorakhpur Eye’ is envisioned to reach a height of 151 meters. Once completed, it will stand as the country’s first cantilever observation wheel, surpassing the London Eye’s stature. The project aims to position Gorakhpur on the international tourism stage, offering panoramic views of the city to visitors within a 10 to 15-kilometer radius”.

GDA Vice President Anand Vardhan highlighted the significance of this initiative, stating that the ‘Gorakhpur Eye’ would be a landmark attraction, providing a unique vantage point to appreciate the city’s charm. The project signals a commitment to fostering tourism in the region and enhancing Gorakhpur’s appeal as a destination of cultural and architectural significance. As the selection process for consultants unfolds, the city eagerly anticipates the realization of this ambitious venture, projecting Gorakhpur onto the global tourism map.
