Lok Sabha Elections: Police Checkpoints Set Up Along Haryana-Uttar Pradesh Borders

Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

Lok Sabha Elections: Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, authorities have taken proactive measures to safeguard the borders between Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. Police checkpoints have been strategically placed at Khurrampur, KGP Jakhauli, Jagdishpur, Garh Mirkpur outpost, Mimarpur outpost, and Bega Ghat to bolster security and prevent unauthorized entry.

Dr. Manoj Kumar, District Election Officer and Deputy Commissioner of Sonipat underscores the criticality of upholding the Model Code of Conduct during elections, stressing that no compromises will be tolerated. With Uttar Pradesh hosting the initial phase of elections, there’s a heightened risk of criminal elements attempting to infiltrate neighboring regions post-elections. Therefore, stringent border checks are imperative to thwart any such attempts.

To combat illegal activities like the distribution of cash, liquor, and other prohibited items during elections, a Static Surveillance Team (SST) has been formed. The SST will conduct thorough vehicle inspections at designated points to intercept any illicit materials. Any vehicle found carrying cash exceeding Rs 50,000 or gift items and precious metals worth over Rs 10,000 will face immediate seizure and subsequent legal action.

In addition to cracking down on the illegal sale of liquor, the district administration vows to closely monitor liquor sales throughout the election period. Strict penalties await individuals found engaging in unlawful liquor distribution, with the police department prepared to take decisive action against offenders.

Dr. Manoj Kumar urges citizens to report any instances of illegal liquor sales or cash distribution for voting promptly. Assuring anonymity to informants, he emphasizes the importance of collective vigilance in maintaining the integrity of the electoral process.
