PM Modi Mourns the Passing of Saint Shivshankar Chaitanya Bharti

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences upon hearing about the demise of Saint Shivshankar Chaitanya Bharti, acknowledging his significant role in the spiritual community of Kashi. Swami Bhartiji Maharaj, renowned for his unwavering devotion to Lord Vishwanath and his scholarly knowledge, breathed his last at 2 pm on Sunday at Sri Ramakrishna Mission Hospital.

Swami Bhartiji Maharaj, also known as Swami Shivshankar Chaitanya Bharti Upakhya, dedicated his life to the service of Baba Vishwanath, regularly attending the Mangala Aarti. His demise marks a significant loss to the saintly lineage of Kashi, with PM Modi offering a humble tribute to his memory.

Despite his advanced age, Shivshankar Chaitanya Bharti Maharaj remained committed to his sadhana and worship, residing in solitary confinement at Raj Rajeshwari Math, Lalita Ghat. Originally from Rajasthan, he received Sannyasa initiation from Swami Shankar Chaitanya Bharati and eventually settled in Kashi, where he was revered as the epitome of Shiva’s essence.

Recognized for his profound knowledge of Sanskrit and oriental studies, Shivshankar Chaitanya Bharti Maharaj was esteemed as a great ascetic and scholar. His presence in Kashi was cherished by the locals, who regarded him as a living embodiment of Shiva.

Prime Minister Modi’s expression of condolences underscores the profound impact of Swami Bhartiji Maharaj’s life and teachings on the spiritual and cultural fabric of Kashi. As the community mourns his loss, his legacy of devotion and scholarship continues to inspire generations.
