Uttar Pradesh Constable Recruitment: The constable recruitment notification in Uttar Pradesh stirred dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the age limit. In response to candidates’ demands, several MLAs, including Union Minister Sanjeev Balyan and BJP MP Virendra Singh Mast, wrote a letter to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Samajwadi Party National President Akhilesh Yadav and Rashtriya Lok Dal National President Chaudhary Jayant Singh had also advocated for relaxing the age limit, and a petition on this matter was filed in the High Court.
The primary point of contention was the age limit set for the general category, fixed at 18 to 22 years by the Police Recruitment and Promotion Board. The youth aspiring to join the police argued that with approximately 60 thousand posts to be filled five years after 2018, many would be excluded due to age restrictions.
“Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s intervention brought relief, as he ordered the relaxation of the age limit for general category candidates. Those above 18 years but below 25 years can now apply. Additionally, women under 28 years and candidates from other categories under 30 years are eligible to apply”.
The decision responds to the candidates’ plea, considering the five-year delay in recruitment that caused many to surpass the initial age limit. In 2018, a total of 49,568 constable posts were filled, comprising 31,360 civil police and 18,208 PAC positions.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to the youth’s interests and their bright future. The move to relax the age limit for all categories underscores the government’s dedication to ensuring fair opportunities in the ongoing constable recruitment process for the Reserve Civil Police in UP Police.
