The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has undertaken a significant effort to reclaim land from the grip of the land mafia along the Yamuna Expressway, with remarkable success reported between Apr 2021 and Mar 2024.

According to officials familiar with the matter, YEIDA has liberated approximately 1.63 million square meters of land, estimated at a staggering ₹1,900 crore in value, from illegal occupation by the land mafia. This decisive action underscores YEIDA’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and protecting valuable resources from exploitation.

During this period, YEIDA has issued notices to 1,740 owners of illegally seized land and demolished unauthorized constructions on the properties of 347 owners. Additionally, 138 FIRs have been registered against individuals involved in illegal development projects. Authorities have clarified that further action will be taken against 1,393 landowners once they respond to the notices. Notably, no penalties have been imposed thus far.

YEIDA officials have identified villages surrounding the under-construction Noida International Airport in Jewar as focal points of unauthorized development. These include Jhajhar and Inayatpur in Bulandshahr, Dorpiri in Aligarh, Dankaur, Jewar, and Jahangirpuri in Gautam Budh Nagar. It is important to note that the sale and purchase of land around the airport site are prohibited, given its status as a notified area, and no housing projects can be undertaken without YEIDA’s approval.

The concerted efforts of YEIDA in reclaiming land from the clutches of the land mafia reflect a proactive approach toward ensuring lawful development and safeguarding public assets. With continued vigilance and enforcement, YEIDA aims to create a conducive environment for sustainable growth and investment along the Yamuna Expressway corridor, bolstering the region’s economic prospects and fostering community well-being.
