Amritsar, Punjab – In an unusual turn of events, Amritsar woke up to extremely poor visibility on the morning of December 25, 2023. At 0830 hrs IST, the city recorded a mere 25-meter visibility, causing concern among residents and authorities alike.
The drop in visibility is attributed to a combination of factors, including weather conditions and environmental elements. The city, known for its rich cultural heritage and historical significance, experienced an unexpected challenge as the festive spirit of Christmas filled the air.
Meteorological experts suggest that a combination of factors, including low temperatures and high humidity, contributed to the dense fog that enveloped Amritsar. This sudden drop in visibility posed challenges for commuters, affecting road and air travel in the region.
The 25-meter visibility recorded at 0830 hrs IST prompted authorities to issue advisories for residents to exercise caution while traveling and to use appropriate safety measures. Traffic management was significantly impacted, with officials urging drivers to reduce speed and use headlights and fog lights to enhance visibility on the roads.
The unprecedented weather conditions also affected flights at Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport in Amritsar. Several flights were delayed or canceled, causing inconvenience to passengers traveling on this auspicious day.
Local authorities and law enforcement agencies were on high alert, working to manage the situation and ensure the safety of residents and visitors. Emergency services were mobilized to deal with any potential incidents resulting from the challenging weather conditions.
