Indian Coast Guard (ICG) joined hands with AIIMS New Delhi and the Union Territory (UT) administration to conduct a two-day medical camp from April 29th to 30th, 2024, on the remote islands of Kavaratti and Androth in UT Lakshadweep. The camp aimed to provide essential medical services to the island residents, with approximately 1,500 citizens attending at each location.

Heading the medical team was Dr. M Srinivas, Director of AIIMS, Delhi, accompanied by 15 specialist doctors from various fields including Gynecology, Pediatrics, Neurology, Dermatology, Orthopedics, and more. The camp focused on offering super-specialist medical coverage to the residents of these far-flung islands, ensuring expert consultation and free medicines.

In addition to consultations, the medical team conducted basic life support (BLS) lectures for local medical professionals, aiming to enhance the medical infrastructure and standards available in the region.

The inauguration of the camp was graced by Dr. M Srinivas in the presence of Inspector General Bhisham Sharma, Commander Coast Guard Region (West), Surgeon Commodore Diviya Gautam, VSM, Principal Director (Medical Services) at CGHQ, and Shri Avanish Kumar, IAS, Health Secretary of the UT administration.

The collaborative effort between the Indian Coast Guard, AIIMS New Delhi, and the UT administration reflects a commitment to providing essential healthcare services to remote areas and improving the overall well-being of the residents of Lakshadweep Islands.
