Kanpur: In a strategic move to bolster its presence in the defense sector, the Adani Group is gearing up to unveil a mega ammunition plant in Kanpur, touted as the largest integrated facility in South Asia. This development comes on the heels of the group’s successful delivery of Indian-made drones to the Navy, showcasing its commitment to advancing India’s defense capabilities.

The inauguration of the state-of-the-art plant, scheduled for the upcoming month, marks a significant milestone for Adani Defence. Spanning an extensive 250 acres in its initial phase, the facility will specialize in the production of small arms ammunition. The ambitious project, backed by an initial investment of ₹1,500 crore, positions Adani as a key player in the defense manufacturing landscape.

The plant’s first phase will focus on manufacturing 7.62 and 5.56 mm bullets, crucial components used in assault rifles and carbines globally. Adani Defence, through this facility, aims to cater to both domestic requirements and tap into the burgeoning international market for small arms ammunition.

Ashish Rajvanshi, Chief Executive Officer of Adani Defence & Aerospace, emphasized the global demand for ammunition amid heightened geopolitical tensions. “Looking at what’s happening on the geopolitical stage in the Middle East and Eastern Europe, demand has shot up in the past two years. We are talking about demands for hundreds of millions of rounds coming from different parts of the world,” stated Rajvanshi.

The Kanpur ammunition plant aligns with Adani’s vision to contribute significantly to India’s defense capabilities while simultaneously positioning itself as a key player in the international defense export market. The venture underscores the group’s commitment to innovation, technological advancement, and meeting the evolving needs of the defense sector.

As the geopolitical landscape continues to influence defense requirements worldwide, Adani’s strategic investment in the ammunition plant reflects its foresight in catering to the escalating demand for small arms ammunition and positioning itself as a formidable player in the global defense manufacturing arena.
