Actress and model Maryam Zakaria, who was born in Iran and now works in Indian films, is of Swedish descent. She has appeared in films in the Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil languages. Her work in films such as Madatha Kaja, Agent Vinod, and Grand Masti has made her well-known.
Zakaria established the Indisk Dans Studio in Sweden, which was the first dance school in Sweden to teach the “jhatkas and matkas of Bollywood cinema”. In 2012, choreographer Arvind Thakur married Maryam Zakaria. In 2013, the couple also had a son, Aryan Thakur.
