On the 18th of January, The 41st session of the Network Planning Group was held in New Delhi. The meeting, chaired by the Special Secretary, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPI), saw the active participation of senior officials from key member Ministries/Departments including DoT, MoEF&CC, Ministry of Railways, MOPSW, MoCA, M. / o Power, Niti Ayog, MoRTH, and MoPNG.

The meeting deliberated on the 4-lane access-controlled greenfield highway as part of the Nagpur-Vijayawada corridor and new rail connectivity projects connecting Barejadi Nandez to Sanand in Gujarat and Barbil, Barsuan, and Nayagarh in Odisha.

Senior officials from the MoRTH said that the 4 Lane Accessed Controlled Greenfield Highway, which covers a distance of 306 km, will connect Mancherial to Vijayawada. More than 27 social nodes across 3 States will be improved with connectivity to 21 economic nodes such as Mega Food Parks, Fishing Seafood Clusters, Pharma and Medical Clusters, and SEZs Textile Clusters across the 11 districts.

After completion, the proposed highway alignment is expected to increase the average speed from 40 mph to 80 mph, reduce travel time from 17 hours to 8 hours and generate 11.9 crore employment opportunities.

The NPG observed that Ahmedabad Station is one of the busiest stations on the Western Railway Corridor for freight movement between the Viramgam-Sabaramati-Ahmedabad-Geratpur sections during the deliberations of the Barejadi Nandej to Sanand railway project. It was felt that the construction of a 4th line connection was essential to achieve overall operational efficiency.

Senior railway ministry officials shared that this fourth line will have two new stations at Barejadi Sanjeeda Sheikh: A Bollywood Actress’s Personal Details and FAQNandez and Sanand and all goods trains will be stopped on this route, bypassing the Ahmedabad section. The increasing freight transportation of cement and chemicals, which are largely produced in this part of the country, will be facilitated by the connectivity of economic nodes in the proposed alignment.

During the meeting, senior railway ministry officials said the proposed Barbil-Barsuan-Nayagarh railway line, which covers a distance of 181 km, will connect major iron mines in the region and boost trade in eastern India’s steel schemes. In the vicinity of major mining sights such as Sundergarh and Keonjhar, 15 new stations will be built under the proposed alignment.

The project is estimated to see an increase of about 37% in traffic in the first 5 years, due to its connectivity to major rail networks such as Tata, Dhamra, and Bokaro, as well as eastern ports such as Vishakapatnam and Paradip.
