On a solemn memorial day, Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, paid tribute to the late Dr. Pandurang Vaman Kane Mahamahopadhyay Bharatratna, a renowned orientalist and scholar of theology. The event was held in Pune, Maharashtra, where Dr. Kane spent most of his life.
Know About Dr. Kane:-
Dr. Kane is widely regarded as one of the greatest scholars of Sanskrit and Indology of the 19th century. He is best known for his magnum opus, the five-volume “History of Dharmasastra,” which remains an unparalleled resource for scholars and researchers in the field of Indology.
Born in 1880 in Ratnagiri, Maharashtra, Dr. Kane showed an early aptitude for a scholarship, mastering Sanskrit at a young age. He went on to earn a doctorate in Sanskrit from the University of Bombay, where he also served as a professor for several years. In addition to his academic work, Dr. Kane was deeply involved in social and cultural activities and was a prominent figure in the Indian independence movement.
