Shivraj Singh, the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, recently announced that the state government has decided to conduct medical and engineering studies in Hindi. According to Singh, the decision to conduct medical and engineering studies in Hindi was taken to ensure that students from rural areas and economically weaker sections of society have equal opportunities to pursue higher education. As per the Chief Minister, a large number of students from rural areas and those who come from financially weak backgrounds find it difficult to cope with the English medium of instruction in medical and engineering colleges.
Furthermore, Singh also argued that many students struggle to clear competitive exams due to their inability to understand and express themselves in English. By making Hindi the medium of instruction, the government hopes to ensure that students from all backgrounds have an equal chance of succeeding in these exams.
