Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India, was an iconic figure in the country’s history. He actively participated in the Non-Cooperation Movement and was arrested several times for his participation in civil disobedience campaigns. He played a significant role in the Champaran Satyagraha, a movement against the oppressive policies of British planters, which was led by Mahatma Gandhi.
Dr. Prasad was a member of the Constituent Assembly and was instrumental in drafting the Indian Constitution. He was elected as the President of the Indian National Congress in 1943 and again in 1939. In 1950, he was elected as the first President of independent India, a position he held until 1962. As President, he played a key role in shaping India’s foreign policy and worked tirelessly to promote the country’s interests on the world stage.

Dr. Rajendra Prasad was a prolific writer and scholar. He authored several books, including “Satyagraha at Champaran,” “India Divided,” and “Bapu Ke Kadmon Mein,” which chronicled his experiences working alongside Mahatma Gandhi. In recognition of his contributions to the field of education, Patna University established the Rajendra Memorial Research Institute of Medical Sciences in his honor.
