The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of Heat Wave to Severe Heat Wave conditions in isolated pockets of Rayalaseema and heat wave conditions likely in several states across India on May 3, 2024.

According to the IMD, Heat Wave conditions, characterized by exceptionally high temperatures, are expected to prevail in isolated pockets of Rayalaseema. Additionally, heat wave conditions are forecasted in several other regions, including Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, and interior Karnataka.

As temperatures soar, residents of these areas are advised to take precautionary measures to avoid heat-related illnesses. Staying hydrated, avoiding prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, and seeking shelter in shaded or air-conditioned areas are recommended to minimize the risk of heat exhaustion or heatstroke.

The IMD’s warning serves as a reminder for individuals and communities to remain vigilant during periods of extreme heat. Authorities are urged to take appropriate measures to ensure the safety and well-being of vulnerable populations, including the elderly, children, and those engaged in outdoor activities.

With climate change exacerbating heat-related challenges, proactive measures and community resilience are essential in mitigating the impacts of extreme weather events. By staying informed and prepared, individuals can effectively cope with heat wave conditions and minimize associated risks to health and livelihoods.
