On the 3rd of July, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi extends wishes to all the countrymen on the auspicious occasion of Guru Purnima. The festival, which falls on the full moon day in the Hindu month of Ashadha, is celebrated to honor and express gratitude towards teachers and spiritual mentors.
“Guru Purnima holds great cultural and historical importance in India, with a tradition of revering spiritual gurus and teachers dating back thousands of years. It is believed that on this day, Lord Buddha delivered his first sermon at Sarnath, marking the beginning of his teachings on the path of enlightenment. The day is also associated with the sage Vyasa, who is considered the author of the great Indian epic, the Mahabharata”.
Prime Minister Modi highlighted the role of gurus and teachers in imparting knowledge, instilling values, and nurturing the spirit of curiosity and learning among students. He expressed his deep respect and gratitude towards all the teachers and gurus who selflessly dedicate themselves to shaping the minds of future generations.
“Prime Minister emphasized the need to recognize and honor not only the traditional gurus and teachers but also those who impart knowledge in various fields and domains. He acknowledged the contributions of scientists, researchers, innovators, and professionals who serve as mentors and guides, pushing the boundaries of knowledge and driving progress in their respective fields”.
Guru Purnima serves as a reminder of the invaluable role of mentors and teachers in society, and the day is celebrated with great reverence across the country. Students and disciples express their gratitude by offering prayers, performing rituals, and seeking blessings from their gurus. It is also a time for introspection and reflection on the teachings received, as individuals strive to embody the wisdom and values imparted by their mentors.
As the nation celebrates Guru Purnima, Prime Minister Modi’s message resonates with people across the country, recognizing the transformative power of education and the crucial role of teachers in shaping a brighter future. It serves as a reminder to express gratitude and pay tribute to the guiding lights that have touched our lives and continue to inspire us on our journey of knowledge and self-discovery.
