On the 27th of January Today, in New Delhi, The National Logistics Portal (marine) was inaugurated by Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways and Ayush Shri Sarbananda Sonowal.

The National Logistics Portal (Maritime) (NLP) is a project of national importance, as envisaged by the Ministry of Ports Shipping Waterways and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

It seeks to connect all stakeholders of the logistics community by using IT to achieve easier, faster, and more competitive offers of services, to improve efficiency and transparency by reducing costs and time delays, and to promote the development of services. The objective is to be a one-stop platform. Improving the logistics sector and thus trade.

NLP will be a single window for all business processes in the logistics sector spread across the country, covering all modes of transport including waterways, roadways, and airways as well as an e-marketplace to provide a seamless end-to-end logistics service coverage can be provided.

The implementation of NLP will be initiated in July 2021 with the development of NLP Marine as the first phase. An “open platform,” EXIM allows multiple service providers to either provide services independently or by combining connectivity options. It can integrate with various Port Operating Systems/ Terminal Operating Systems, ICEGATE, other regulatory agencies, and stakeholder(s) systems in the ecosystem.

The goal is to make business easier by reducing regulatory complexities and moving towards paperless trade. IT infrastructure will be used to develop a single window that centralizes all necessary documentation, compliance certifications, and formal procedures necessary for the EXIM trade.

NLP Marine’s activities are classified into four different verticals. i. carrier, ii. Cargo, III. Banking and Finance and iv. regulatory bodies and participating government agencies (PGAs). It will enrich the user experience through end-to-end tracking of shipments with information at each stage, seamless exchange of documents, and the ability to transact securely with transparency and speed.

The Latch On feature enhances the NLP Marine experience by linking to systems developed by other agencies, providing the required features that are not directly embedded into NLP Marine, seamlessly and without duplication of efforts.

Many standalone applications that are developed by multiple vendors, users, and other stakeholders are expected to integrate with NLP Marine through appropriate curation. It also enables digital transactions for payments required for the clearance processes, such as Port charges, CFS charges, shipping line charges, transportation charges, etc.
