Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla honored the legacy of Bharat Ratna Dr. Zakir Hussain Khan on his birth anniversary. Dr. Khan, born on 8 February 1897, was a renowned educationist, politician, and the third President of India.
Hailing from Hyderabad, Dr. Zakir Hussain Khan’s journey epitomized dedication and scholarship. He played a pivotal role in shaping India’s educational landscape, serving as the Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia and later, Aligarh Muslim University.
Dr. Zakir Hussain Khan’s commitment to Gandhian principles and inclusive education led to significant reforms, notably the Nai Talim educational policy, advocating free and compulsory education in vernacular languages.
His steadfast opposition to communal politics and advocacy for national unity underscored his statesmanship. Despite political challenges, he remained a beacon of integrity, earning accolades such as the Padma Vibhushan and the Bharat Ratna.
Dr. Zakir Hussain Khan’s tenure as President, though tragically short-lived, left an indelible mark on India’s history. His contributions to literature, education, and nation-building continue to inspire generations.
