In a heartfelt ceremony, Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, paid humble homage to the legendary poetess, Mahadevi Verma ji, on the occasion of her memorial day. The event, held at her final resting place, commemorated the life and literary contributions of Mahadevi Verma, who was honored with the prestigious Jnanpith Award and Padma Vibhushan for her exceptional work in the field of poetry and literature.
Mahadevi Verma, often referred to as “modern Meera” for her deeply spiritual and evocative poetry, left an indelible mark on Indian literature. Her verses continue to inspire generations with their profound themes and lyrical beauty. Nitin Gadkari, in his tribute, highlighted the enduring relevance of Mahadevi Verma’s words, emphasizing the importance of preserving and promoting India’s rich literary heritage.
During the ceremony, Gadkari also announced initiatives to commemorate Mahadevi Verma’s contributions, including the establishment of a literary award in her name and the development of a cultural center dedicated to her life and works.
