Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari extends his humble homage to Swami Ranganathananda on the occasion of his death anniversary. Swami Ranganathananda, born on December 15, 1908, was a revered Hindu swami of the Ramakrishna Math order, serving as the 13th president of the Ramakrishna Math and Mission.

Born as Shankaran Kutty in Trikkur village near Trichur, Kerala, Swami Ranganathananda was deeply inspired by the teachings of Swami Vivekananda and Ramakrishna. Joining the Ramakrishna Order’s Mysore center as a Brahmachari in 1926, he later became a Sannyasi in 1933.

Throughout his life, Swami Ranganathananda served in various capacities within the Ramakrishna Mission, including stints in Rangoon, Karachi, Delhi, and Hyderabad. He was known for his scholarship, lecturing extensively on Indian spiritual culture and practical Vedanta both in India and abroad.

Swami Ranganathananda’s contributions spanned literature, education, and social service. He authored over 50 books, including “Eternal Values for a Changing Society,” and conducted moral and religious classes for prisoners in Bangalore and Mysore jails.

Honored with accolades such as the Indira Gandhi Award for National Integration and the Gandhi Peace Prize, Swami Ranganathananda’s legacy continues to inspire generations. His passing on April 25, 2005, marked the end of an era in Indian spirituality.
