Odisha Day, also known as Utkala Dibasa, commemorates the formation of the state of Odisha on April 1, 1936. This date marks a pivotal moment in history when Odisha emerged as a separate entity from Bihar and Orissa Province, along with the addition of Koraput District and Ganjam District from the Madras Presidency.

President Murmu highlighted the enduring spirit of the Odia people, who have played a pivotal role in the development of both Odisha and the wider nation. “The resilient people of this state have made great contributions to the development of Odisha and the country,” she affirmed, underscoring the significance of Odisha’s societal and economic advancements.

Throughout history, Odisha has been a cradle of culture and heritage, producing numerous icons and visionaries who have shaped modern India. President Murmu paid homage to these luminaries, stating, “Odisha has produced many icons over the centuries, including several makers of modern India.” Their legacy continues to inspire generations, reflecting Odisha’s enduring influence on the nation’s progress.

As the celebrations unfolded, President Murmu invoked blessings from Lord Jagannath, a revered deity in Odisha, for the state and its people. “May Lord Jagannath bless the state and its people with greater success and prosperity,” she said, encapsulating the hopes and aspirations for a bright future for Odisha.
