Bihar’s Bhagalpur district is grappling with a severe flood situation as the River Ganga at Azmabad continues to surge beyond its danger level, as indicated by the recent flood forecast from the Central Water Commission. This challenging situation highlights the urgent concerns for local communities and authorities in the region.
“According to the official flood forecast, the River Ganga at Azmabad is currently flowing at an elevated level of 30.73 meters. The steady trend in water levels signifies the persistence of the critical situation. Comparatively, the established danger level stands at 30.54 meters, with the river’s water level surpassing this threshold by 0.19 meters. This elevation underscores the ongoing and severe nature of the flood crisis”.
While the steady trend might provide some stability, the potential for unforeseen weather variations or sudden hydrological changes remains a significant risk. The unchanging trend in water levels reinforces the need for continued vigilance and preparedness among local communities and authorities.
“Local officials and disaster management teams are tirelessly engaged in efforts to alleviate the impact of the flooding. Evacuation measures, distribution of relief materials, and the establishment of temporary shelters are among the strategies being implemented to address the crisis. The flood forecast provided by the Central Water Commission serves as a vital tool in guiding these efforts, offering real-time data and insights crucial for making informed decisions during emergencies”.
