Western Disturbances Impacting Northwest India: A Western Disturbance, currently positioned as a cyclonic circulation over north Pakistan and its neighboring areas, is expected to influence Northwest India from April 22, 2024. Under its influence:

  • Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Himachal Pradesh may experience scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall/snowfall, along with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds from April 18 to 20 and on April 22.
  • Uttarakhand may witness isolated to scattered rainfall from April 18 to 24.
  • Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and East Uttar Pradesh could experience isolated to scattered rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds from April 18 to 22.
  • Himachal Pradesh may also observe isolated hailstorms on April 18 and 19.
  • Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad may encounter isolated heavy rainfall/snowfall on April 19.
  • Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar may experience strong surface winds from April 18 to 19.

Cyclonic Circulations Over Northeast India: Cyclonic circulations over Bangladesh, northeast Assam, and neighboring areas are expected to affect Northeast India from April 18 to 22. Under their influence:

  • Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura may experience widespread light to moderate rainfall/snowfall with isolated thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds from April 18 to 22.
  • Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh may witness scattered to fairly widespread rainfall/snowfall from April 18 to 21.
  • Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura could encounter isolated heavy rainfall from April 19 to 22, with very heavy rainfall likely in Arunachal Pradesh on April 20.

Trough/Wind Discontinuity Over Certain Regions: A trough/wind discontinuity extending from the Comorin area to south Telangana is expected to impact various regions from April 18 to 22. Under its influence:

  • Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Konkan & Goa may experience isolated light rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning from April 18 to 22.
  • Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh may witness isolated to scattered rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds from April 19 to 22.
  • Kerala, Mahe, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Coastal Karnataka, North Interior Karnataka, South Interior Karnataka, and Lakshadweep may encounter scattered to fairly widespread rainfall accompanied by isolated thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds from April 18 to 22, with isolated heavy rainfall expected over Kerala, Mahe, and South Interior Karnataka on April 19.

Maximum Temperature Observations: Maximum temperatures have soared above normal levels in several regions, with temperatures ranging from 42-43°C in areas such as Marathwada, Telangana, and Rayalaseema. Heat wave conditions are forecasted in isolated/some pockets of Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, Saurashtra & Kutch, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Rayalaseema, Telangana, and interior Tamil Nadu over the next five days.

Heat Wave, Warm Night, & Hot & Humid Weather Warnings:

  • Heat wave conditions are likely to prevail in isolated/some pockets of Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, Saurashtra & Kutch, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada from April 18 to 22, with severe heat wave conditions expected in certain areas.
  • Hot and humid weather is expected in Konkan & Goa, Gujarat, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Rayalaseema, Telangana, Kerala & Mahe on specific dates.
  • Warm nights are forecasted for Rayalaseema on April 18 and 19.
